# Manage your domain

Manage your verified custom email domain after you complete the initial setup. Before you begin, [Set up your domain](/growth/grow-business/use-your-email-domain/set-up-domain).

## Update your sender email prefix

You can update your sender email prefix at any time without re-verifying your domain.

1. From the [PayPal dashboard](https://developer.paypal.com/dashboard/), go to **Invoicing** > **Settings** > **Domain**.
2. Select **Update Sender Prefix**.
3. Enter your new prefix.
4. Select **Save**.

Your updated sender address appears in the **Domain** settings.

> **Note:** Avoid changing your sender prefix frequently. It may cause confusion for buyers who recognize your existing sender address.

## Deactivate your domain

Deactivating your domain reverts all invoice emails to [service@paypal.com](mailto:service@paypal.com) until you reactivate it. Your domain remains verified and you can reactivate it at any time.

1. Go to **Invoicing** > **Settings** > **Domain**.
2. Select **Deactivate Domain**.

Your domain status updates to inactive and invoice emails revert to [service@paypal.com](mailto:service@paypal.com).

## Reactivate your domain

1. Go to **Invoicing** > **Settings** > **Domain**.
2. Slide the toggle to activate domain.

Your domain status updates to active and invoice emails resume sending from your
custom domain.

## Remove your domain

Removing your domain permanently reverts all invoice emails to [service@paypal.com](mailto:service@paypal.com). To use a custom domain again, complete the setup wizard from the beginning.

1. Go to **Invoicing** > **Settings** > **Domain**.
2. Select **Remove Domain**.

Your domain is removed, and invoice emails revert to [service@paypal.com](mailto:service@paypal.com) permanently.

After removing the domain from PayPal, clean up the unused DNS records from your DNS provider.

## Ongoing domain monitoring

After initial verification, PayPal continuously monitors your domain to ensure email deliverability is maintained. If a record goes missing or becomes invalid, custom sending is suspended and emails revert to [service@paypal.com](mailto:service@paypal.com) until the records are restored.

You receive email notifications for the following domain lifecycle events:

| Event | Action required |

| Verification failed | Review and correct your DNS records, then re-verify from Invoicing settings. |
| Transient error reverted to [service@paypal.com](mailto:service@paypal.com) | No action required. PayPal will attempt to re-verify automatically. |
